About Kesteven RFC
Kesteven Rugby Football Club was formed in 1947. The first location was Stoke Rochford before the Club moved to Grantham in 1952 using the King's School playing fields. The Club finally moved to its present home at Woodnook in 1958.
The Clubhouse was completed in April 1993 comprising of five changing rooms, a good size bar and function room.
The Club currently fields three senior teams playing in the RFU Midlands League. The Club has remained at largely the same level since league rugby started.
A major success of the Club was the introduction of mini rugby in 1989. This section has grown year by year and the Club provides age group rugby from under seven to under nineteen. Kesteven RFC minis and juniors section was formed in September 1994.
Kesteven RFC proudly boast a thriving minis and juniors section and in recent years hundreds of children have come along to the Woodnook ground to play rugby on a Sunday morning.
The season starts on the first Sunday in September and continues until the first Sunday in May. There are teams for all age groups from under 7 to under 19 and even children as young as four play provided they are of a reasonable size and can throw and catch a ball. Boys and girls play in mixed teams up to the end of their under 12 season. Under 7's and under 8's play tag (or touch) rugby and progress to contact and scrums from under 9 onwards. By the time players leave the minis and join the juniors at under 13 level, they are playing 15 a side rugby on full sized pitches.
The Club has the correct size pitches for all the minis age groups (under 7's to under 12's) and the juniors play on full size senior pitches.
